Tunaweza Empowerment Organization (TEO) is a non-profit, survivors-centered women’s rights and youth development CBO. We work in all ten sub-counties of Migori County, focusing on the most vulnerable girls, young women, and youth.
Founded in 2015 by young women who refused female genital mutilation, TEO was created to end the practice and expand dignity, safety, and opportunity in Kuria–Migori. Tunaweza — Swahili for “we can” — is both our name and our principle: lasting change is built together, through community-led strategies.
Our work is grounded in a human rights–based approach to social justice, gender equality, and poverty eradication.
To advocate for the full realization of socio-economic and political rights of women, girls, and youth through innovative, sustained advocacy and empowerment — offline and online — challenging injustice in society.
