According to the government citation, Mr. Mwita was
awarded in recognition of his efforts through various platforms, including
community barazas, stakeholder forums, and radio talks, to amplify awareness
about ending FGM. Mr. Mwita expressed his excitement and appreciation to the
Ministry for the recognition.
This is a great honour and achievement in regards
to the work we do in the community. This is also a reminder of the uphill task
that we have to keep up doing to end FGM and other forms of violence among the
Kuria Community in Migori. I wish to continue using this platform to engage men,
boys and community at large in reducing violence against women
"Gender
equality is essential; it's not simply a catch phrase. It must never be a
hurdle on the path to full equality. Making sure that everyone has equal
opportunities and fair treatment is the goal, not favoring one gender over
another. Gender equality entails dispelling myths, reducing disparities, and
advocating for equitable representation in all fields. It's about establishing
a society in which people are assessed on their ability. Let's advocate for policies that empower
everyone, regardless of gender identity, to pursue their dreams and aspirations.
Together, let's build a society where everyone has the freedom to thrive and
contribute their talents without discrimination." He noted.
Mr. Mwita further
thanked his colleagues at Tunaweza empowerment organization, partners and
stakeholders for mentoring and giving him space to contribute to positive
change in the community. Mr. Mwita also noted the award is a special dedication
to his family and colleagues who have been a firm support pillar.
