TUNAWEZA EMPOWERMENT is a non-profit women's rights, survivors-centered and youth-led development advocacy community-based organization that exist to catalyze the power of the most vulnerable girls, young, women and youth to create the future they imagine –for themselves, for their society, and for the world; working in Migori County and focuses its interventions in all the 10 sub-Counties. Tunaweza Empowerment Organization CBO was established in the year 2015 with a group of young women who had been discriminated in their own society because they refused to undergo female genital mutilation and had wanted to end the vice among girls and young women in Kuria – Migori County, Kenya and registered in Kenya at the ministry of labor and social protection under the department of social development. The Head Office is located in Kehancha Town-Migori County, Kenya. Tunaweza is currently implementing the power to you(th) project in Migori county: an advocacy project that seeks to build an agency for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) and create opportunities for them to meaningfully engage in all decisions in relation to addressing harmful practices like teenage pregnancies, Sexual & Gender Based Violence (SGBV), Child Marriages and Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C).
Purpose of this position: The finance officer reports to the programs coordinator and is responsible for overseeing the project finances and other operations and administrative duties related to the power to you(th) project. The Finance officer supervise, manage project funds and report on its financial performance to ensure the best use of resources by preparing sound budgets, monitoring project expenses, and ensure timely preparation of donor financial reports.
Qualifications and experience
• Undergraduate degree in accounting/ finance or equivalent.
• The candidate must be of age 24-35 years.
• Professional accounting qualification (CPA, section 4) At least 1-year experience of working at a Civil Society Organization eg. Youth or women-led CBO, NGO or FBO.
• Highly skilled in financial statement preparation for purposes of audit is an essential requirement.
• Computer literate; be highly competent using Microsoft Excel and other MS applications.
• Familiarity with computerized accounting systems.
• Proven ability to handle challenging workloads.
• Ability to gather facts, and data and scrutinize with ease, determine logical solutions and resolve issues with minimal supervision.
• The highest level of integrity and commitment to preventing corruption and fraud.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with staff.
• Willingness to undertake occasional travel to the field for training, support, and experience working with young people.
